UPDATE | Pedestrian hit and killed on Bobby Jones Expressway ID'ed

7:40 a.m.

AUGUSTA, Ga. (WRDW/WAGT) -- A man struck and killed while walking on Bobby Jones Expressway near the Doug Barnard Parkway exit has been identified.

Antonio Habersham, 34, from the 3400 block of Jonathan Circle in Augusta, was struck while walking east by a 2003 Honda Accord also traveling east.

An autopsy is scheduled for Wednesday at the GBI Crime Lab in Atlanta.



4:36 a.m.

AUGUSTA, Ga. (WRDW/WAGT) -- The Richmond County Sheriff's Office is investigating the death of a man walking on Bobby Jones Expressway near mile marker 12, just up from the Doug Barnard Parkway exit.

According to Coroner Mark Bowen, the victim was struck about 2:15 a.m. on Tuesday, and pronounced dead at the scene around 3:17 a.m. The victim was walking east when he was struck by a 2003 Honda Accord also traveling east.

The man was reportedly walking in the roadway and was wearing dark clothing in a non-lit area.

Investigators are not releasing the name of the man at this time, but will when the next of kin are notified. An autopsy is scheduled for Wednesday at the GBI Crime Lab in Atlanta.
