Victim identified after deadly car accident in Aiken County Saturday night

AIKEN COUNTY, S.C. (WRDW/WAGT) -- The Aiken County Coroner has identified the victim involved in a deadly car accident on Saturday night.

The victim has been identified as 51-year-old Michelle Chambers from Graniteville, S.C., according to Coroner Tim Carlton.

The South Carolina Highway Patrol responded to a car crash around 11:40 p.m. Saturday night at the intersection of Rainbow Falls Road near the I-20 overpass, according to a news release. The investigation revealed that Chambers was traveling above the posted speed limit, when she lost control of her 1999 Ford Explorer.

The release states Chambers went off the road and struck the overpass, which caused the vehicle to plummet onto the median of I-20, trapping her inside the car. Chambers was pronounced dead at the scene, when first responders arrived, according to the release. A toxicology reports is pending at this time.

The crash and the circumstances remain under investigation by the South Carolina Highway Patrol and the Aiken County Coroner's Office.
