UPDATE | 9:52 a.m.

MCCORMICK COUNTY, S.C. (WRDW/WAGT) -- The search for a missing McCormick County prisoner came to an end Sunday morning.

The suspect, who has yet to be identified by officials, was found inside the McCormick Correctional Facility around 4:30 a.m. after attempting to escape from the jail. Officials say he was found somewhere on the premises after he went missing from his jail cell, but never left the grounds.

Chris Doolittle, Director of McCormick County Emergency Services, says they have a Code Red system in place and must classify any prisoner as "escaped" until he/she is in custody, even if the suspect is still inside the facilities. He says that system includes having the Sheriff's Office standing by to help with a potential search.

Doolittle says there was never a threat to the local community and the prisoner is once again behind bars.
