COLUMBIA, S.C. (WRDW/WAGT) – If you’re looking for another way to entertain the kids at the end of summer, or make them go outside after a long first week of school, here’s an idea. Try the FLW Forrest Wood Cup on Lake Murray this weekend.

It’s a fishing tournament at Dreher Island State Park where anglers from around the country show off their skills and families can spend time outside.

After watching the anglers and the morning sun, you can head over to the Columbia Metropolitan Convention Center for one of the best fishing expos in the country.

“We’ve got over one hundred exhibitors showing off the latest and greatest tackle. Everyone’s got great show deals,” said FLW Director of Public Relations Joe Opager.

The first 500 kids each day will get a free rod and reel and one lucky fan will win a brand new ranger boat. You and the kids can watch the anglers bring in their catch to weigh-in starting at 5 p.m. in the Colonial Life Arena.

There is even a free concert before the final weigh-in on Sunday.

“We’ve got an Easton Corbin concert going on Sunday night just prior to the weigh-in, free country music concert, we expect a packed house for that one,” said Opager.

The fun is free, and weigh-ins and a good with the family is always priceless.

You can head to the lake Saturday and Sunday morning again, it’s at Dreher Island State Park. If you get there early, and we mean early (7 a.m.) you can get free coffee and doughnuts.
